Perry Township Bicentennial in 2014

Stan Krawson and Chuck Taylor inquired with Perry Township Trustees about any plans for the Perry Township Bicentennial in 2014. An initial discussion meeting will take place on Friday July 2nd 10AM at the Township Hall. ALL INTERESTED ARE WELCOME. Contact Township Administrator Joyce Fetzer for further information.

  1. Nice photo post, Gary! Ohio became a state in 1803; Canton formally became a city in 1805. Stark County was founded in 1809. On December 7th, 1813, Stark County Commissioners named Township 10, Range 9, Perry Township. However,

      the first organizational meeting of the township fathers didn’t occur until the end of February, 1814.

    Why quibble over founding / establishment dates? One characteristic of the Perry Township History Club is that we seek the truth (to the best of our ability!) Sometimes, historical information is misunderstood and then misreported. In this case, on paper, in a filing at the Stark County Courthouse, the new Perry Township was designated in 1813; however, the representatives of the citizens of Perry actually began their work at a public meeting two months into the new year, 1814. I expect the bicentennial celebration will begin in December, 2013 and continue throughout 2014 ! Stan Krawson, Secretary – Perry History Club.
